Making Your Holiday Property Stand Out

Good reviews and positive feedback are the lifeblood of every successful holiday property and it’s therefore important to go that extra mile to make your guests feel extra welcome.
Warwickshire’s leading independent holiday cottage provider Exclusively Warwickshire, suggests 10 simple things owners can do to ensure their propertie
s make a lasting impression:

1)   Keep things simple – go for subtle, neutral and calming colour schemes, avoiding loud patterns and bright colours that might not be to everyone’s taste.

2)   Think comfort – guests will leave you a better review if they feel they have been pampered. Make beds look extra inviting with good quality duvets and crisp white linen and don’t forget that mattresses are VERY important, so make sure they are hotel quality.

3)   Make sure you’ve got enough dining and lounge seating, cutlery & crockery for the maximum number of occupants that will stay at your property – and that goes for outdoor seating and dining too as many guests enjoy eating alfresco.

4)   Think about the things people are going to need as soon as they arrive – it’s always nice to leave a small bottle of milk, tea and coffee so that your visitors can make themselves a cuppa after what might have been a long journey, and a starter supply of toilet paper is an absolute must!

5)   Ditch the chintz – It’s nice to have a bit of artwork around the place, but dispense with any fussy ornaments that just collect dust and may make things look cluttered.

6)   Go for uniformity. Try to have matching crockery and plates – white is always a good idea and you can pick up reasonably priced porcelain dinner sets from most good supermarkets – better still you can often buy individual pieces here too, so that you have spares to replace the inevitable breakages that will occur.

7)   Don’t have anything that can’t be easily replaced – try to avoid having anything of high value in your property. People away from home in unfamiliar surroundings do sometimes have the odd accident, so put away the cut glass champagne flutes and opt for something equally elegant but a whole lot cheaper!

8)   Provide local information. Guests are unlikely to be familiar with the local area so make things easier for them by providing a file of local attractions, and info on nearest pubs, shops, supermarkets, taxis, doctors, dentists etc. – think of everything they might need to know if they’re away from familiar surroundings.

9)   Give visitors more than they’re expecting. A welcome note, bottle of wine or local produce are always a good way to get their visit off to a flying start and let them know you appreciate their custom.

10)  Enlist the help of local experts – Exclusively Warwickshire can offer advice on everything from choosing and furnishing your holiday property to handling its day to day running; including maintenance, bookings, cleaning and changeovers.
